Frequently Asked Questions

Answer: Tree-felling is typically done during the warmer months, because this decreases the amount of time that it takes for healing to occur. Most tree felling would take place in July through October, during summer. The warmth will also encourage rapid cell growth making fast healing possible without needing artificial chemicals or toxic compounds that might hamper efforts at future reclamation activities.

Answer:

1. Check with a tree removal company if you don’t know how to cut down a tree, and make sure they give you the necessary equipment before beginning the process.
2. Give yourself plenty of room when cutting down trees – You need to remove anything that may cause injury when your chainsaw is in use. If possible, try to cut from the top and keep people below at least 10 feet away depending on what kind of safety gear they’re wearing (for example: closed-toeshoes).
3. Wear protective clothing such as goggles or safety glasses, long sleeves and pants made out of tough material that doesn’t fray easily; wear closed toe shoes; wear gloves.

Answer:

1. Enquire about the services of a certified arborist to provide professional and knowledgeable advice.
2. Decide where you want to keep your tree if it falls over for structural areas, such as near a road or electricity wires, this may not be an option.
3. Determine which direction the sap is flowing. sap can flow from weakest spot in a tree trunk if you cut from this area, there’s more chance that the bark will crack and splitting from top-to-bottom on one side could cause some serious damage on your property below.
4. Find out what type of tree you’re looking at cutting down first – different trees require different procedures for taking them down.

Answer: You cut the trunk first because the branches are coming off orbit at a perpendicular angle.

A tree can fall in any direction, but it’s going to tumble and land such that all of its branches come off at a perpendicular angle away from the trunk. When cutting down a tree, start by chopping through the trunk so that it can’t topple sideways or back-slam you against something else nearby. Once your chainsaw gets near the top of the trunk, you’ll need to work fast and adjust for lateral movement as much as possible to avoid danger and extend your reach far enough over without hitting other trees nearby. Work with whichever side is less dangerous and expose yourself as little as possible – then just saw through all those nerves.

Answer: First, you need to estimate which way it will fall. Second, dig out the ground in the direction the tree would fall if left unharmed. Third, use a sturdy rope to tie your tree’s trunk off at one end–near its base–and attach to an anchor that can withstand strong wind gusts or heavy snow loads. Place this anchored end into the hole in step 2 and gently push on the other side to coax it over before tying it down securely with another piece of rope (on its opposite side).

Answer: All trees should be cut down with the proper saw. A small tree does not require a larger saw than other types of trees, but it is important to not leave any “soft spots” on the trunk. The last thing you want is for that small tree to come tumbling back down days or even just hours after someone cuts it down because you didn’t get every soft spot.

Answer:
First, it’s important to be aware that cutting down a tree often requires one or more professional linemen. However, if you are trying to clear some trees on your property that have no power lines near them, there are ways you can do it yourself with safety in mind.

If the trunk is thin enough, an axe will work. For thicker trunks – starting 5 inches or more – use a saw instead of an axe. Your best bet is to use one of the old school handsaws made for cutting wood – either a crosscut saw or a hand-sawn rip-saw which has teeth cut parallel to the length of the blade also works well for thin trees.

Answer: There are many different ways that trees can be cut down. Chainsaws, saws, and bulldozers are all equipment used to cut down trees.

Chainsaws are fairly often the go-to tool when it comes time to help take down a tree; but really in any situation, it’s about making sure you have the right tool for the job. A chainsaw is perfect when slow slow cutting is needed like in difficult conditions where there might be snow on the ground or limited visibility (e.g., windy days). Depending on what type of saw you’re using (teeth vs chain) this could also work well for easier fast cuts or if limbs need to be removed fairly quickly without worrying about overkill.

Answer: While this might seem like a silly question, there is no one answer that fits every situation. The best tool for trimming trees depends on the type of tree you are trying to trim, the size of it, how close it is to other nearby objects or structures, what you want to do with the upper branches after they’ve been cut (i.e. keep them present for ground level screens), and finally your budget!

A chainsaw is the quickest way if you’re trying to clear off an entire forest; however it can be expensive and need constant maintenance. On the opposite end of spectrum is a pole saw – which could potentially take hours (or days) depending how tall your tree might be — but also very inexpensive.

Answer:

It’s important to know what you plan on using the wood for before cutting trees, as they serve different purposes.
For instance, hardwoods such as maple or walnut are often used in furniture, and softwoods like fir and pine are useful for paper. Deciduous trees (the ones that lose their leaves in winter) tend to be more flexible and make poorer lumber; coniferous trees (ones that keep their needles year-round) make better lumber because they contain resin surprises most people don’t want caught between their teeth.

Answer:

If the tree has full, healthy-looking branches, it is probably thriving. If you have a cooperative environment and a few decades worth of time to wait for growth, accessing the thickness of one’s trunk can also be helpful. The outer layer of bark should appear solid and tight with no cracks or bleeding sap. Those with a bit more skill can email me directly for specific guidance based on region type (desert or rainforest) as these regions present their own particular challenges; those without such talents are likely capable enough to consider what is needed by simple observation.
